Being without a parent is a harsh sentence indeed. Throughout the United States, 2.5 million children and the families caring for them are serving this sentence.
Over 50,000 people are incarcerated in Michigan prison — 70% have children. Without effective interventions, most of these children will follow their parent into jail or prison, destroying more families and perpetuating the family cycle of imprisonment.
Located in Livonia (Wayne County), MCCD's Family and Community Services (FCS) division has provided assistance to this overlooked and undeserved population since 1987. Designed to continue the bond between the incarcerated mother and her child(ren) through regular supervised visits at the female correctional facilities. FCS continues to grow and provide effective solutions to challenges faced when working with children and families of this population.
The FCS Staff and Volunteers are committed to working with relentless compassion to provide quality services to children who are in “at risk" conditions.
